Screenwriter Spotlight: Finalist – Angel Carr

Screenwriter Spotlight: Finalist Questionnaire (Angel Carr)

What’s your name? Where were you born? Where do you live? And what’s your
hobby?
My name is Angel Carr, I was born and raised in Ohio, my hobbies are writing and
watching movies, of course.

Where did you come up with the concept that just placed as Finalist in the screenplay
contest? How long did it take you to develop it into the screenplay it is now?
I came up with the concept for Heartbreak Hotel based on an ex-girlfriend. I just
brought to life the saying, “She’ll rip your heart out” to a whole other level. Once I had
that idea in my head, it honestly took me two months to write it.

From concept to finished draft, can you take us through your screenwriting process?

Once I get an idea in my head, it really tears through me to get out. So, I write pretty
hardcore till it said what it needed to say.

When did you realize that you wanted to become a screenwriter?
My early teens, but I didn’t set it in motion till my twenties.

Who are your biggest filmmaking/screenwriting influences? What about their style do
you like or borrow?
I’m a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino. I love how I can feel like I’m in the room he’s
writing about. I aspire to be successful like him one day.

Have you ever been obsessed with a movie or TV show? If so, which one? Why?
There’s too many to count.

What’s your favorite moment in cinema history? Why?
The movie The Good Son, when the mother is hanging on for dear life to her son and
nephew. And that gut wrenching decision she has to make. That scene will forever
stick with me.

Who’s your favorite character in cinema history? Why?
Michael Myers. He’s proof evil never dies.

If you could talk to anyone from any era, who would it be and what would you ask
them?
Wes Craven, I grew up watching his work. I would ask his advice on how to be one of
the greats.
